About me
My name is Marita Sikku and I am Sami. I grew up in a reindeer herding family and still live with reindeer herding today with my own family, which consists of my partner, a son, and a daughter. We live a somewhat separated life as our daughter goes to school in Luleå. My partner and I now live apart, and he resides in Kiruna. That is where I’m from. We live a slightly different life, as we will have two bases, one in Kiruna and one in Luleå. The Sami word Dàlvvas means over the winter and that is when my family and I will bring some reindeer down from the mountains to Luleå to welcome visitors and share insights into Sami Culture and reindeer herding. In the summer months, I am at home in Kiruna, close to my family, the reindeer, and the mountains, which I love the most! I have worked in the tourism industry for many years and have trained in tourism. I have also worked as a vocational teacher in high school, teaching the Hotel and Tourism program for 10 years. I’ve long thought about starting my own company in tourism to offer a genuine experience.
Now it's finally time!
